PDMA Balochistan, led by Director Planning, Coordination & Rescue, Mr. Naveed Ahmed, held a detailed meeting with Colonel Fahad to discuss strengthening disaster risk management and emergency preparedness in DHA Quetta, with particular focus on the proposed establishment of a PDMA Station. During the meeting, Mr. Naveed Ahmed briefed Colonel Fahad on PDMA Balochistan’s statutory mandate under the National Disaster Management Act, its operational role in emergencies, coordination mechanisms, and the responsibilities of District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) in disaster preparedness and response. The discussion highlighted DHA Quetta’s objective to enhance disaster management capabilities, with the establishment of a PDMA Station envisioned as a key initiative. It was clarified that such a project would require formal approval through the Government’s Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), in line with government procedures and planning frameworks. Under the guidance of Director Planning, Coordination & Rescue, Mr. Naveed Ahmed, assured full technical support and capacity building for DHA Quetta, including structured disaster management trainings, mock exercises, simulation drills, first aid, and emergency response preparedness for administration and existing staff. Emphasis was also placed on compliance with building codes and urban safety standards to reduce disaster risks. As part of the engagement, Colonel Fahad was facilitated with a visit to the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC), which operates 24/7, where he was briefed on real-time information management, emergency coordination, and disaster response protocols. Mr. Naveed Ahmed also presented Colonel Fahad with the PDMA shield as a gesture of appreciation and goodwill. The meeting also reinforced PDMA Balochistan’s close coordination with 12 Corps, underscoring the importance of civil-military collaboration for effective and timely disaster response.
