Thamel, Kathmandu 2024 | থামেল, কাঠমান্ডু

A short work trip to Kathmandu where we stayed in the Manang Hotel in Kathmandu's Thamel area (a popular location for tourists with a lot of shopping & nightlife). As a result of the student protests and subsequent violence in Bangladesh, the Awami league Government led by Sheikh Hasina disconnected the country's internet as a last ditch attempt at total communication blackout to stop protesters organizing themselves and to avoid mass people joining the the movement after seeing the news of the police brutalities & civilian casualties on social media. There was a mass exodus of IT folks from Bangladesh moving to other neighbouring countries in order to continue their work and to save global client projects and contracts. It was a difficult time for all of us away from home & family. But thanks to our friends in Nepal who looked after us and made our stay comfortable & memorable. I retuned back to Dhaka in early August just in time to witness the Government toppling under the continued pressure from the masses in August 5th. Till then.. -- অফিসের কাজে আমি নেপালে কাঠমান্ডুর থামেল এলাকার হোটেল মানাং এ ছিলাম। এলাকাটি ট্যুরিস্টদের খুব প্রিয় স্থান। বাংলাদেশে যখন ছাত্রদের গণআন্দোলন চলছিল তখন শেখ হাসিনার আওয়ামী লীগ সরকার আন্দোলন দমন করতে সারা দেশের ইন্টারনেট সেবা বন্ধ করে দিয়েছিল। যাতে ছাত্ররা নিজেরা সংগঠিত হতে না পারে ও হতাহতের প্রকৃত খবর সাধারণ মানুষ জেনে রাস্তায় না নেমে আসে। এ সময়ে প্রচুর আইটি বিশেষজ্ঞ দেশ ছেড়ে পার্শ্ববর্তী দেশগুলোতে চলে এসেছিল যাতে তাদের বিদেশী ক্লায়েন্ট ও প্রোজেক্ট এর কাজ ব্যাহত না হয়। সময়টা আমাদের জন্য খুবই কষ্টদায়ক ছিল যদিও আমাদের নেপালি বন্ধুরা আমাদের বেশ ভাল হাবেই রেখেছিল। আমি আগস্ট মাসের প্রথমদিকে দেশে ফেরত যায়, ঠিক হাসিনা সরকারের পতনের আগ মুহূর্তে। সেই ভিডিওটি দেখতে পারবেন -    • Fall of Hasina   নেপালে ভবিষ্যতে আবার কোনদিন ঘুরতে যাওয়ার ইচ্ছা আছে - তবে এইবার আশাকরি ভিন্ন পরিস্থিতিতে এবং আমার পরিবারকে সাথে নিয়ে ছুটি কাটাতে। সেই দিনের অপেক্ষায়..
