Today, I’m diving into a fun and super useful DIY project—building an Oculink to Thunderbolt adapter using off-the-shelf parts! 🔌⚡ I needed one of these for my external PCIe setup, but after scouring the internet, I couldn't find a single ready-made adapter to buy. So, I made my own! 😎 👉 In this video, you'll learn: ✅ Why Oculink is awesome for external PCIe setups ✅ How Thunderbolt can bridge the gap for devices without Oculink ports ✅ The step-by-step process of building this adapter ✅ How well it performs in real-world testing 🔩 Parts Used: 1️⃣ NVMe to Thunderbolt card (from an old drive enclosure) 2️⃣ NVMe to Oculink adapter (~$20 online) 3️⃣ Custom 3D-printed enclosure (designed for heat resistance & compactness) 📏 I designed the enclosure to be space-efficient, drawing inspiration from Skyreach Tiny for airflow! ⚙️ Assembly Steps: Prepped the case & installed M3 inserts 🔧 Connected the NVMe to Oculink adapter & secured it 🛠️ Mounted the Oculink port & baseboard 🔩 Boom! A fully functional Oculink to Thunderbolt adapter! 🎉 💻 Testing: I tested the adapter with: ✅ NVMe expansion card + Oculink board ✅ Latte Panda Sigma’s Thunderbolt port ✅ Gaming laptop (spoiler: worked even better!) 📊 Performance Insights: ⚠️ Oculink isn’t always hot-swappable—your results may vary. ⚠️ Thunderbolt has lower bandwidth than native Oculink, but for most moderate-bandwidth PCIe peripherals, this method is a great plug-and-play solution! 🔥 Should this be a real product?
