#Delhicrime #DelhiNews #LPGScam #BlackMarketing #DelhiPolice A major case of black marketing of essential commodities has surfaced once again in Delhi, where the Jamia Nagar Police Station team of the South-East District has arrested an आरोपी involved in illegal LPG cylinder trade. In this operation, the police recovered a total of 62 LPG cylinders from the आरोपी’s possession, including 48 filled and 14 empty cylinders. A Tata Ace vehicle used for transportation was also seized. According to DCP South-East Hemant Tiwari, on March 16, Head Constables Vijay and Vikram were on routine beat patrolling in the Jamia Nagar area when they spotted a suspicious Tata Ace vehicle loaded with gas cylinders in Gali No. 39 near Yamuna Pushta. The police team stopped the vehicle and asked the person present to show a license or authorized documents. However, he failed to produce any valid papers. Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 62 LPG cylinders. During interrogation, the accused was identified as 28-year-old Shahnawaz, a resident of Joga Bai Extension. He revealed that he, along with his associate Mukesh, was running this illegal business. The accused disclosed that they used to procure LPG cylinders illegally from near a gas agency in Village Laliyani, Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), and transport them to Delhi. These cylinders were then sold to residents in the Jamia Nagar area without any receipts at highly inflated prices. He further admitted that just a day before his arrest, he had brought around 70 cylinders from Uttar Pradesh and sold them in Delhi. Notably, this illegal trade was creating an artificial shortage of LPG cylinders in the city. People were being misled into believing that cylinders were out of stock, while in reality, they were being black marketed. A domestic LPG cylinder, which normally costs around ₹900, was being sold for ₹3,000 to ₹4,000. The police have registered an FIR against Shahnawaz under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Shahnawaz, who studied only up to Class 3, admitted that he got involved in this illegal activity out of greed for higher profits. Meanwhile, the police are conducting raids to arrest the co-accused Mukesh and are also investigating the wider network involved in this racket. Delhi Police stated that strict action will continue against those involved in black marketing of essential goods.
