WHAT IS FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)? | The Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic

Although there are shampoos and medications that can help strengthen the weakening follicles, the best methods of hair restoration is through hair transplant. At the Toronto Hair Transplant Clinic, we offer the Neograft FUE method for our patients. We love this revolutionary method of hair transplant because it offers many benefits that former hair transplantation techniques could not. First of all, FUE methods involve Follicular Unit Extraction, the removal of existing follicles of hair from the areas of the head where hair growth is permanent, such as the back or sides. These areas are also referred to as the donor site. The removed follicles of hair, known as grafts, can contain 1-4 strands of hair. The grafts are transplanted into the recipient site one at a time. The grafts are inserted strategically in a way that fills in the balding areas, improves the density of hair in that area and aesthetically will improve the overall look of the recipient site and hairline. The average procedure requires anywhere from 500-2000 grafts and can be done in a day, within 4-8 hours, depending on the number of grafts being implanted. In terms of pain, local anesthesia is administered to alleviate any discomfort during the FUE procedure. The actual procedure also leaves no long or visible scarring which is a wonderful bonus and change from surgeries of the past. Furthermore, Hair transplant with Neograft has a very high success rate and does not carry with it any major risks, long term side effects or inhibiting recovery time. Most patients are able to continue on with their usual routine within 3-4 days. Even by day 1, post procedure, most patients feel like themselves and can carry on normal activities at home; they just choose to minimize their schedule while the redness subsides and post-treatment healing takes place.
