This video shows the Sounder commuter rail pulling into Auburn Station, making its scheduled stop, loading and unloading passengers, and then powering up to depart. Full commuter rail action. You could hear it before you saw it. The distant horn echoing through Auburn — two long, one short, one long for the crossing. A few seconds later, the crossing lights started flashing red, bells ringing, gates lowering. That’s when you know it’s coming. Then the headlights appeared down the track. Bright and steady. The locomotive rolling in at track speed, slowing gradually as it approached the platform. You can hear the change in engine tone as the engineer reduces throttle. The rumble softens slightly. As the train enters the station area: • Steel wheels screech lightly against the rail on the curve • Brake sounds become noticeable • The horn gives a final short blast • The crossing gates stay down until the whole train clears The Sounder glides along the platform, slowing smoothly. You can feel the weight of the locomotive and coaches as it comes to a controlled stop. The final brake set — slight hiss of air. Then silence except for the low diesel idle. Doors open. Passengers step off first — some heading quickly toward the parking garage, others walking calmly down the platform. Then new riders line up and board the coaches. You can hear footsteps on the platform, quiet conversations, the station announcements in the background. While it’s stopped, I captured close-up details: 🔹 The locomotive idling at the front 🔹 Heat waves slightly visible above the engine 🔹 The polished rails under the wheels 🔹 The Sounder logo along the side of the coaches 🔹 Platform activity as people move in and out After boarding is complete, the doors close with that familiar chime. There’s a short pause. Then you hear the engine rev slightly as the engineer prepares to depart. The horn sounds again for the crossing. Slowly, the train begins moving forward. At first it’s barely noticeable — just a gentle roll. Then acceleration builds. The diesel power increases, and the coaches follow smoothly behind. The crossing gates are still down as the locomotive clears the intersection. Once the last coach passes, the gates lift, the lights stop flashing, and traffic resumes. Within seconds, the Sounder is picking up speed down the BNSF mainline, heading toward its next stop. The rumble fades into the distance, leaving Auburn Station quiet again. This wasn’t just a pass-through. This was a full commuter stop — arrival, unloading, boarding, and departure. Real Sounder action. Real Auburn Station rail movement. 🚆🔥
