The former CEO and founder Brandon Truaxe passed away last week aged 40. His death has been surrounded in mystery and conspiracy. I choose not to contemplate on how he left this earth but to celebrate his life- this man lived a life less than the ordinary – his life was extraordinary. He literally changed the face of cosmetics and skin care, speaking out against advertising and giving transparency to the aesthetic industry. He created an ethos behind his branding, giving patients ownership of their skin care. He made skin care a learning experience for clients, suppling ethical, honest products based upon science and not marketing. Brandon did away with fragrance, scents, fancy packaging and relied on word of mouth to market his skin care line. How successful was he? He went from zero in 2013 to 300 million in sale in 2018. Everyone in the skin care industry took notice of this computer programmer. Some even bough into his company. Estelle Lauder has a 28% share in the company and paid a whopping 50 million dollars. His next move in 2019 was to break into disease specific states including rosacea and acne. The Ordinary was due to launch the Benzoyl Peroxide range – giving Proactive a run for its money. Brandon can be quoted to say he wanted ‘medical grade skin care’ to be a significant arm for The Ordinary – Retinol, Vitamin A, B, C as the foundation for skin care. I do believe that if Brandon lived out his vision the future acne scarring community would benefit. By giving ethical anti-acne treatments with proven vitamin A and BPO, the majority of the World’s acne cases will be treated early. BPO kills bacteria involved in acne, and Vitamin A- retinol can remodel EARLY acne scars with collagen stimulation. Early and effective management of acne still forms the best way to reduce and prevent acne scarring.
