On this trip we set out from Budapest's impressive Nyugati station, built in 1877 by Gustave Eiffel. Photographers have already taken up their positions to capture the arrival of MÁV Class 424 4-8-0 coal fired steam locomotive No.424.009. A wisp of steam can be seen in the distance as our locomotive propels 3 luxurious first class carriages dating from the Austro-Hungarian era towards the station. Our train starts and finishes at Budapest Nyugati station, firstly travelling along the main line to Cegléd after which we join a secondary route to Kecskemét where our engine is serviced and passengers get a chance to visit the town. Please look out for Part 2 where we lose the overhead wires and traverse a single track route through attractive countryside and pretty villages passing a series of locomotive hauled trains and multiple units in scenes reminiscent of long lost British Railways secondary lines in the 1960's.
