The Les Héritiers Saint-Genys Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière 2022 is a Premier Cru from the southern Côte de Beaune — but thanks to climate shifts and superb farming, it now delivers ripeness, depth, and power once reserved only for the Côte de Nuits. Winemaker Patrice Béguet farms some seriously old vines here, half planted in the early 1960s and the rest around 25 years old. The vineyard sits on limestone-rich soils, giving the wine its mineral backbone while the warm 2022 vintage brings black cherry, spice box, and serious structure. And then there’s the score: 98 Points – Stuart Pigott (James Suckling) Pigott called it like he tasted it — ignoring Burgundy’s traditional hierarchy and simply awarding the wine the massive rating it deserved. This is Burgundy at its most expressive: concentrated without heaviness, mineral without austerity, vibrant, spicy, and absolutely commanding on the palate. At $49.98, this might be the Premier Cru deal of the year — a 98-point Burgundy with only 180 bottles available.
