The Kogarasu-Maru is particular famous and important because it is the oldest known curved Japanese sword in existence. Made in the mid to late 700s, the Kogarasu-Maru marked a transitional point between the Chinese influence straight swords and what we know to today as the curved tachi and later Katana. The influence for this build came from a combination of historical documents including the Shuko Jissho and a surimono from the man himself, Hokusai. The result was a beautiful and functional tribute to one of the oldest known truly Japanese influence, swords in existence.
