In the late-summer hedgerows of my northern home, the bramble weaves her thorned arches, guarding clusters of dark, sun-warmed fruit. In this episode of Flora in Folklore, we wander the forest edge to meet the blackberry ; a plant steeped in Northern European lore as a guardian, healer, and threshold to the otherworld. From the sweet taste of wild berries on a summer walk, to the old charms and herbal remedies recorded in ancient texts, the bramble’s story is one of resilience, magic, and the wild heart of the hedgerow. Original narration by The Folkkeeper's Hearth For those who’d like to read further, much of the lore in this episode is drawn from works by Katharine Briggs, Christina Hole, T.F. Thiselton-Dyer, W.Y. Evans-Wentz, and Ethel Rudkin Slides Created in Canva https://www.canva.com with original artwork sourced in the public domain via: Wikimedia Commons https://commons.wikimedia.org Wikimedia (required) photo and art attributions: Blackberry Bushes at Muswell Hill by Mark Kobayashi-Hillary, London, UK, CC BY 2.0 Brambles by Jonathan Billinger, CC BY-SA 2.0 Rubus Fructicosis by Pleple2000, CC BY-SA 3.0 Nature's Archway by Phil Gayton from Totnes, UK, CC BY 2.0 Basket of Wild Blackberries by Gandydancer, CC BY-SA 3.0 Travnik by Sndrey Shishkin, CC BY 3.0 Dronning Gunhild by Vastgoten, CC BY-SA 3.0 Music: Prayer by Roy Dahan Valley Shine by Oren Tsor Licensed via Artlist.io Find more music at https://artlist.io
