Detroit, Michigan requires all rentals to be tested to be lead safe. Not lead free! There is usually lead paint underneath the new lead free paint. The initial test is around $500. Every three years there is a follow-up test that is usually $400 (if you use the same inspector). In Detroit we also have to have our houses city inspected. That test is $160. Besides registering the house as a rental (free!), these are the requirements to be in compliance. In this video, I question Kevin basically on how to dupe a lead paint inspector.
