But in 1650 AD, Maharaja Dharmapala II made Kalyanpuri his capital and named it Karauli. Karauli district was earlier a part of Sawai Madhopur district. But in 1997 it was separated from Sawai Madhopur and made 32nd district of Rajasthan.
