After mixing goraka pulp with a bit of sugar and gently crushing it by hand, the juicy part can be separated from the seeds. Its aroma, color, and even taste strikingly resemble strawberry jam. A portion of this prepared mixture was set aside, blended with chunks of white guava, and turned into a refreshing drink, crafted to ease the midday heat with a tangy touch. To the remaining amount of goraka pulp, ginger, garlic, shallots, cinnamon, cloves, and chili powder were added and ground together, then simmered down with resulting in a flavorful chutney worth tasting. I took a few fillets from the kelawalla fish I got from Uncle Sagara, added salt and goraka, and left them to marinate. My mother had already made a curry using the head portion, meant to be eaten in the evening with roast bread and a splash of coconut. As for the rest, huh! our household has more than enough mouths to feed. Nothing ever goes to waste here, not even a single grain of rice. That’s how many four-legged residents we have around. About two weeks later, the jarred fish had properly cured. I rinsed a few fillets in coconut water to reduce the saltiness. A manioc (cassava) tree was uprooted, boiled with coconut and green kochchi chilies, though the tubers hadn’t quite softened yet. Regardless, everything was tossed in, and the preserved fish was cooked down together with the cassava until done. I took it all to the land for Father and the others to have with their evening tea. While they sat cracking jokes and eating with gusto, I too couldn’t resist, a piece of fish slipped straight into my mouth. The next morning, a meat curry was prepared with a generous chunk of goraka, and rich with oil and spices. On the dining table, alongside plain white rice and coconut sambol, there was also a salad made with guava, cucumber, and tomatoes. Just seeing both Mother and Father enjoying their meal so contentedly was enough to please me with warm heart. Embrace the nature… 🐇🐈🦜 Be good, do good, enjoy this flying life and depart...👣 May triple gems bless you!!! With love, Poorna💛 💬 Did you enjoy this video? Let me know in the comments below!
