In the rook vs pawn endgame, the outflanking technique is often used to win games. In this lesson, GM Hovhannes Gabuzyan explains what it is and how it can be used. Just like shouldering is used by the side with the pawn to hold a draw, outflanking is used by the side with the rook to win the game. You will see two examples on this topic in the lesson. The first one demonstrates a basic technique of winning rook vs pawn endgame by outflanking. The second one is slightly advanced. White has to be accurate with their first move in order to execute the winning king maneuver.
