Presented by the Swift Current Centennial Committee as part of Swift Current's Centennial celebrations, The History of Swift Current takes us on a journey through the highs and the lows of the creation and growth of the Frontier City. The 1930's were very difficult for most people in Swift Current. Between the economic depression and the Dust Bowl, the city was in dire straights. Relief camps were set up, but there was only so much work for so many people. Frustrated citizens hopped on the rails to protest in Ottawa. The drought hurt the agricultural output of the area. Everything seemed hopeless. Out of these difficult times, however, came a few determined groups of Swift Current natives. The Pioneer Co-op was started by a group of farmers, and the Kinetic Club was founded and planned the first "Frontier Days", a tradition that continues to this day.
