In today's MRE review, we’re stepping back into the mid-70s to open a 1975 US LRP (Long Range Patrol) ration, Menu 2: Chili Con Carne with Beans. These freeze-dried rations were designed for long range patrols and designed to last a long time, but how does the food hold up after five decades in the bag? Despite the age, this chili was surprisingly edible—rehydrating perfectly with a flavor profile that puts some modern rations to shame! However, it wasn't all a success. The coconut candy bar was a journey into "concentrated sorbitol" territory, and I'm still trying to get that taste out of my mouth. On the bright side? The Coffee Instant Type I was an absolute knockout. Hands down, some of the best vintage coffee I've ever had.
