In today's MRE review, we’re stepping back into the mid-70s to open a 1975 US LRP (Long Range Patrol) ration, Menu 2: Chili Con Carne with Beans. These freeze-dried rations were designed for long range patrols and designed to last a long time, but how does the food hold up after five decades in the bag? Despite the age, this chili was surprisingly edible—rehydrating perfectly with a flavor profile that puts some modern rations to shame! However, it wasn't all a success. The coconut candy bar was a journey into "concentrated sorbitol" territory, and I'm still trying to get that taste out of my mouth. On the bright side? The Coffee Instant Type I was an absolute knockout. Hands down, some of the best vintage coffee I've ever had. What’s inside: Chili Con Carne with Beans (Main) Coconut Candy Bar (The "Sorbitol" experience) Coffee Instant Type I (The MVP) ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: Please do not attempt to recreate this. Eating rations that are 50 years old carries significant risks of botulism, food poisoning, and severe illness. I am an experienced collector taking calculated risks for educational purposes. Always inspect vintage items for seal integrity and off-odors, and when in doubt, throw it out!
