Testing the durability of the 2018 German bagged 24hr Individual Combat Ration (MRE). This MRE had some major "casualties" after almost 8 years on the shelf, including a fruit bar from hell and some truly horrid, rancid crackers. I also encountered a mystery leak in the main meals—likely a manufacturing defect in the packaging process rather than a puncture. Despite the mess, there was a massive silver lining: both main meals didn't seem to be compromised. But the best part of this MRE taste test was that the ration gods blessed me with ham paté that when paired with peach jam, was heavanly! It sounds like a wild combo, but it was so good I was wishing there was more! The Menu: Mains: Pork Stew with Rice & Lentils with Sausages. The Spreads: Pork Paté and a legendary Ham Paté. The Verdict: Is the Ham Pate + Peach Jam combo the best thing in the German inventory? Disclaimer: This ration was nearly 5 years past its inspection date and showed clear signs of packaging failure and spoilage.
