And now from a double bill of versatile Volvos, to a double bill of loud London Leylands from the Amersham & District's Borehamwood event, and to begin with we have a tuneful rocket in the form of Leyland Lynx 801. D101NDW was new in 1987 as one of a batch of 12 Leyland Lynes new to Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, two years later they were bought by Grey-Green in 1989 where they operated in Kent in the Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells areas. 1996 saw a brief spell at London Links, before passing in 1998 to Arriva Kent & Surrey. The mid-200's saw it accquired by Medway independant operator Nu-Venture before being bought for preservation around 2008. 801 was participating in the Amersham & District's Elstre and Borehamwood running day, the first in this area, recreating red Central routes 107 & 292, as well as green Country routes 306, 355 & 358. This video shows a spirited run on route 355 from the Elstree Alum Hall site to Radlett and back. 801 is powered by a turbocharged Leyland TL11 engine coupled to a ZF Ecomat 4HP500 4-speed automatic gearbox, and like any Lynx, can certainly get up to speed with ease. So hope you enjoyed as much as I did.
