The Snow Came Early This Year! Trains in the Snow Around Decatur, IL

With 3 major snow events prior to the actual start of winter, and the majority of the snow being gone again by Christmas, the winter of 2025/26 has started off with a bang in the Midwest. Given the snow fall, I really couldn't pass up the chance to try to get at least some train videos while the snow was on the ground. The first event happened just after Thanksgiving and the snow lasted for about a week, allowing me to catch at least one train. In an awesome turn of events, that one train would be NS 251, the westbound Triple Crown intermodal train with one of the very few remaining "white face" dash 9s leading. The second event happened a few days before the third event, and the third was much more surreal for me, as I was trackside when it was really coming down, and the temperatures were plummeting into the single digits and below! This kind of environment is among my favorite to railfan in due to the combination of beauty, cold, and chaos. Working in it is a totally different feeling and as a railroader myself I absolutely hate it. As a railfan though, I love it. I caught 3 trains (and barely missed a 4th) before my wife who was tagging along because she wanted out of the house decided she had enough. This outing on December 13th was also my first using a brand new microphone that my beautiful wife gifted me as an early Christmas present, so if the audio is a bit off to you, it's because I'm still getting used to all the settings on it.
