An introduction to the ADI42-124 attitude indicator made by S.F.E.N.A. from the Tornado's front cockpit. This instrument is one of the most important ones for flying in poor weather - its mechanism for keeping the gyro axis upright during normal flight is quite exotic and the video tries to give an insight into its operation. Addendum 9.5.2020: Some variant of the mechanism is patented (1965) by S.F.E.N.A., but the patent is quite hard to understand - FR1416416A. Addendum 8.5.2020: In the ADI42-124 shown in this video only one of the small balances works properly. And the weights do not perfectly pull into the right direction to erect the gyro (not a bug - it is by design), so the gyroscope does not directly recover from the pitch introduced at 3:27, but part of the pitch is transferred to a roll indication first.
