We have defeated Gigantamax Snorlax as a Quad Battle without utilizing Max Mushroom 2 weeks ago. Back in that time, we believe it was the limit where Blissey has fully supported Dynamax Machamp such that it can always Dynamax when Max Meter charged. Until u/Aggressive_Tip_1214 has challenged it can be further optimized if we make good use of the second phase - The phase where Gigantamax Snorlax lands stronger attacks. After the fight has started for a while, a text notification of "boss is getting desperate" will shows up. Around half a minute after, another text "boss's attack is getting stronger" would show. This is when the "second phase" has started. In this phase, Gigantamax Snorlax will hit 6 times stronger than it was in first phase. Ever since the Max Battle has introduced, the system was advertised to fight against a boss with a team of Pokemon, where you lost when they all fainted instead of having a timer. Because of that, at the early research, the "second phase" was believed to be the "time limit" of the battle, where the boss lands strong attacks and defeat your team before you can heal/shield. However, it does not take long until the team managed to deliberately stall a lower tier battle. Eventually, they have discovered a time limit of the battle. A prompt stating "Everyone's Pokemon have grown tired!" would shows and halt the battle when the timer ran down to 0. This time limit is served as the hard limit of the battle, where second phase served as a soft limit instead. While a time limit was discovered, it was not the end of the story. They have realized the test results are inconsistent. Eventually, they have found out the inconsistency of the time limit is associated to Dynamaxing. In other words, timer flows differently when you are Dynamaxing. Right now, it is believed the timer will only flow by 5 seconds, no matter how long the Dynamaxing lasted. Of course, this means Dynamaxing is the best way to deal damage, if winning the battle is your concern. If you would try to charged up Max Meter as fast as possible, you would be able to Dynamax significantly more times before the boss entered "second phase". Once again, when you are in a team of 4, it is best to avoid using charged move. Then, it is the time to answer the second question - What is the hard limit? For tier 1 battle, we can easily test it out since we can tank the boss "second phase" attacks. Without any interference from Dynamaxing, the team has obtained an accurate time limit of the battle, which is 8 minutes. However, we have also found out Gigantamax Battle Boss enter second phase earlier than low tier boss. So, we have tested it out on Gigantamax Snorlax, where we will try to survive by only using defensive moves until the timer run out. Unfortunately, the game visuals is inconsistent, such that we can only give an estimate to the time limit. We believe the time limit is around 480-500 seconds, where the second phase starts around 200 seconds. With time limit known, now it does make sense we can further optimize the performance if we fight well in second phase, since it occupied most of the time. This time, we will try to fight Gigantamax Snorlax again without weather boost or helper bonus, by better utilizing the time limit. To better utilize Max Moves, we let Gigantamax Gengar tanks Gigantamax Snorlax's move with Max Guard this time. While Dynamax Blissey would also survive Gigantamax Snorlax's attacks easily, it is less flexible since a pair of Dynamax Blissey is required to fully heal the damage received. With Gigantamax Gengar, they can simply switch into Dynamax Machamp when they have shields up, and stay in to refill shields when needed. At last, the team has defeated Gigantamax Snorlax after Dynamaxing 22 times, with approximately 80 seconds left in timer.
