The Lancaster Canal runs between Preston and Kendal via Lancaster and Tewitfield. There is also a spur to Glasson Dock from Galgate. It is 57 miles long (61 including the spur). It was constructed between 1793 and 1826 and was formally opened in 1819. The whole length can be split up into 14 sections of roughly 4 miles (8 miles there and back). The Canal is all flat and level, apart from a short section at Tewitfield, though many access points are down steep steps. The canal is NOT accessible from every bridge. It can be very muddy in places, especially in winter or after wet weather. This video is a pictorial record of each of the bridges that feature on the canal. Most of them were designed by John Rennie, however there are now many additional bridges that have been installed to cater for modern traffic. For more information about the canal visit: Lancaster Canal Trust : https://lctrust.co.uk For more information visit my website: https://cactus-corner.co.uk/the-lanca... The images start with the Glasson Spur. (bridges 1 - 9), then continue from Preston up to Kendal. Each bridge is numbered, dated to when I visited and then given the name as mentioned in the Lancaster Canal Trust guide book Most images are taken facing up the canal, but one or two are facing down the canal.
