Carbis Bay Radioactivity

Very high background radiation found on Carbis Bay beach in October 2014. The source is natural uranium which was mined at Wheal Providence Mine in Carbis Bay. The drainage adits (tunnels) for the mine emerge on the beach so for many years water polluted with radioactive material was discharged onto the beach. The radiation is all around as the uranium particles are everywhere. Strangely the levels seem to fluctuate between high and normal on different days with no indication as to why. I suspect the high readings on the beach are due to contaminated sand being bought to the surface and washed up on the beach by tidal currents.
