The winter solstice, hiemal solstice or hibernal solstice occurs when one of the Earth's poles has its maximum tilt away from the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For that hemisphere, the winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. Since New Zealand sits in the southern hemisphere we have winter solstice on 21st June. Time lapse video from Lincoln, New Zealand captured on 21st June 2024. A partly cloudy morning turning into clear day. Cool weather with strong cold wind from the north east in the morning easing in the afternoon. Time lapsed by making 2mins into 1sec. Civil Twilight(Dawn):- 7:31am Sunrise:- 8:04am (exact time:- 8:03:59) Solar Noon:- 12:32pm Sunset:- 5:00pm (exact time:- 5:00:01) Civil Twilight(Dusk):- 5:33pm Length of Day:- 8hr 56min (exact length:- 8hrs 55mins 50sec) Hope you enjoy!
