The summer solstice, also known as estival solstice or midsummer, occurs when one of the Earth's poles has its maximum tilt towards the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For that hemisphere, the summer solstice is the day with the longest period of daylight and shortest night of the year, when the Sun is at its highest daily maximum elevation in the sky. Since India sits in the Northern hemisphere we have summer solstice on 21st June. Time lapse video from Thane, India captured on 21st June 2025.
