During our journey through Israel, the Discover Cyprus With Us team visited one of the country’s most fascinating natural wonders — the Soreq (Stalactite) Cave near Beit Shemesh. What makes this place truly special is not only its beauty, but its story. In 1968, this cave was discovered completely by accident during quarry work. The site was managed by Alex Shenberg (1930–2008), a mining engineer who noticed something unusual after a powerful blast. The next morning, a small opening was revealed in the rock. Curious, Alex descended inside — and found himself standing in a vast underground chamber, filled with breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites formed over hundreds of thousands of years. He later described the moment as “genesis” — entering a place no human had ever been before. Standing there today, walking through the softly lit pathways, we could truly feel that sense of awe. Cool air, absolute silence, and stone formations shaped long before history began — it’s a reminder of how small we are, and how powerful nature can be. Thanks to Alex’s decision to protect the cave rather than continue quarrying, this hidden world was preserved. This visit was a powerful experience for our team — one that goes far beyond sightseeing. 📍 Soreq Cave, near Beit Shemesh 🪨 Nature • History • Responsibility If you enjoyed discovering this hidden place with us, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and travel with us 🌍✨
