enjoying life after being homeless and not letting bad moments get us down! I have 100% cut contact with my abuser and have felt so much better over the past month, despite the financial stress. this little getaway was super healing! it was just over 3km out to the lake and my boy walked 90% of it!!! he needed help up a set of steep stairs, and i carried him for a couple of mins so he could enjoy his snack. that is so far for tiny legs!! i clocked about 7k steps to the lake and he takes way more steps than i do! he was sooo tired by the time we got to the lake. had lunch, got our feet wet (the water was absolutely frigid), i got new socks and he got a new butt, then i plopped him into the carrier and started the 4.5km hike back to the car. i definitely underestimated how heavy backpack + baby would be and my shoulders are killing me but i'm super impressed with my physical and mental endurance!! this was an incredible adventure and even though it got up to 30 degrees when the forecast said 15, it was incredibly rewarding and i'm so, so glad we did it. can't wait for the next! more info in the comments! Super important that you stay in tune with your body and don't push yourself beyond your limits, especially when pregnant. Consult with your physician first if you have experienced complications or fear you might. When engaging in any potentially hazardous activity (such as a very long hike in the heat), listen to your body and take plenty of breaks. At no point during this hike did I feel unhealthy. During the last 5 minutes, I started to feel a bit crampy in my lower abdomen due to the position of the carrier. Once I put E down, the pain went away within minutes. At no point did I feel terribly uncomfortable, exhausted, overwhelmed, or unsafe. I drank plenty, ate plenty, and gave myself time to go slow, stop, sit, breathe, etc. I took the backpack off multiple times and gave my body a rest. I am well-experienced with hiking, hiking whilst pregnant, and with the changing temperatures. My shoulders are still a tad sore from carrying so much weight, and my hips DEFINITELY hurt, but everything about this was good for both of us physically and mentally. We were all safe at all times xx
