This anti-war song was inspired by the wounded veterans I saw when I was getting medical care at the Walter Reed National Naval Military Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. I was there for routine care, and the waiting room and halls were filled with veterans in wheelchairs and many who had missing limbs. I wrote the lyrics in 2015, wrote the music in 2018, then performed and recorded this demo over the course of the following years. (Video images generated using Adobe AI) Lyrics: Broken Bodies of War A call to arms for the noble fight When another despot flexes his might The generals confer in the secret war room And send young men off to meet their doom Boys leave their mothers and wives to worry And hope to return with tales of war's glory As I walk down the lonely streets / I see the broken bodies of war I will never know their harrowing feats / the broken bodies of war Striped in victories and defeats / the broken bodies of war The warriors march and fly to the battle Grizzled veterans will not be rattled The volley of gunfire shocks the senses As they break through the enemy defenses They fight together as their brother's keeper The mire of the battlefield grows deeper Even if he wanted to turn a blind eye / He’s sworn to defend and heed the battle cry Knowing the risk as he enters the fray / His orders are clear and he, he will obey As I walk down the lonely streets / I see the broken bodies of war I will never know their harrowing feats / the broken bodies of war Striped in victories and defeats / the broken bodies of war Lives and limbs were lost along the way The price was high for freedom’s new day Dirt and blood have stained their fatigues Time will not dim the glory of their deeds Their courage and resolve is without doubt Boys they went in and men they came out As I walk down the lonely streets / I see the broken bodies of war I will never know their harrowing feats / the broken bodies of war Striped in victories and defeats / the broken bodies of war the broken bodies of war / the broken bodies of war the broken bodies of war
