North Iceland - Diamond Circle Area - Flying with EasyJet to Akureyri - March 2024 - Part 2

This is the second part of our trip to North Iceland in March 2024. Although we have visited Iceland many times previously, this was our first visit to the North Area of Iceland including parts of the Diamond Circle Area. We normally fly into Iceland to the airport at Keflavik, near Reykjavik. As we always visit in the winter, our concerns have been whether travel to the Nort of Iceland from Keflavik would cause problems as it's a fairly long drive, around 5 hours IF the roads are clear. Recently though, EasyJet have started to fly direct from Gatwick to Akureyri, so we thought we would take the opportunity to visit the North by flying direct. This trip was only for a total of 5 days, and this video begins as we leave our hotel near Mývatn to make our way back towards Akureyri and our hotel for the final night of our stay. Although the weather forecast for the day was some sun and maybe a light shower, it actually was snowing heavily (again!). The roads were ok though so we headed out. As it was on our route anyway, we stopped off at the rather magnificent Godafoss waterfall. It was still snowing heavily when we were there, which meant no drone shots and it made taking decent photographs very tricky. Saying that, we had a lovely walk down to the waterfall and then back along the opposite side of the river. A very nice easy walk, and some spectacular views. After finishing at Godafoss, we headed to our hotel which was just North of Akureyri. It was the Hotel Natur at Þórisstaðir in Eyjafjord. We were looking forward to the hotel as it sounded nice and quiet, and had an interesting looking hot tub and viewing tower that has been built into an old grain silo. On arriving, we headed up to the sightseeing tower, and then made our way down to the HotTub. Both very enjoyable and made for a great, relaxing end to the day on our final evening in Iceland (for this holiday.. we will be back!). Typically the skies cleared the following morning and we had some fantastic sun and blue skies... just in time for us to head to the airport to fly home. I managed a quick drone flight after breakfast to get some shots of the fantastic scenery from the hotel. The views on the way to the airport were sooooo lovely, and even at the airport it didn't stop there. I can honestly say that the views from the airport were the best I've ever seen, so amazing! I managed to get a photo from the plane looking down the runway, and again, definitely one of my fave views ever. And of course, as we took off and flew across Iceland the fantastic views just kept coming! :) Overall, we loved our few days away in the North of Iceland. It's definitely somewhere that we will be coming back to in the future. But for now, it's on to our next adventure which is a cruise to Norway, so make sure you SUBSCRIBE if you want to see more of our adventures :) If you have any questions or feedback, then just let us know in the comments.
