OC1 Turkey Splash Race - Snapped Paddle at Start

San Francisco, California, USA Disclaimer: first paddle already had a small crack in it, so it was only a matter of time. That's why I had my spare paddle ready with easy access. When the paddle snapped, the splintered wood did cut my hand. I didn't take a look at it until after the race. At least it wasn't spewing blood, more like I lost a small chunk of hand meat. Got a lot of questions about how I undid the rubber for the spare so fast... I didn't rubber the spare onto the iakos. I put the spare on the back bungees and put my slippahs under the blade face to keep it in place. When I turned around the grab the spare, I only needed to slip the paddle out of the bungees. I raced using the Hypr Concave Paddle. It reminded me to slow down and take strong strokes. Huge thanks to HPOCC and NCOCA for organizing and running the race!
