Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer and I'm ready to go for a kayaking trip. But before I do that, I wanna talk about two kayak carriers. I always recommend to people and we're gonna compare them. So it's the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier and the Malone FoldAway-5. We're gonna talk about why I recommend them so often as well as which one might be better for you and your kayaking adventure, let's go. So why do I recommend these kayak carriers so often Honestly, because they're affordable, and they get the job done. So it's really nice to have something that is practical, it's useful, but also doesn't require you to spend as much because after you've been kayaking for a while and had to carry those kayaks, that's when you can start looking at other options where you invest a little bit more to save more time. Now, another thing about these kayak carriers is that everything is included. So the straps, the carrier, you don't need to get anything else, so that's what makes it a great way to start. There's a lot more that these kayak carriers have in common. Both of them fold using levers on the mast and that transform them from a J-style kayak carrier to a more compact kayak carrier. So both of them are technically J-style, although the Malone FoldAway-5 does have an adapter included with it, if you wanna move it through different configurations, we'll talk about that one later, and they're both very lightweight. So if you're just looking for something that gets the job done and doesn't take up much space while doing so, that's where these two are handy. The methods of how they get the job done though, that's where they do it differently, and we're gonna go into those different features, but a quick summary is that if you're carrying around a single kayak and that's all you're carrying, then go ahead with the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier. If you have the possibility or potential to carry around more kayaks or even paddleboards, go with the FoldAway-5 for its versatility. So with that being said, let's go for the main difference, which is gonna be the straps. So unless you're good at rolling up straps after every use, this is probably what your strap kit is going to look like. In fact, this is what I see a lot for people that carry around kayaks. So here we have the etrailer strap kit included with your kayak carrier. I really like the strap kit. In fact, I use this for other kayak carriers. I just get extras of it on its own and replace the other straps. So here we have our main cambuckle straps. The cambuckle straps is what you put around your hull, and that really secures most of the kayak. But then you also have your bow and stern straps. Those go for the front and the rear of your boat. Those are very important, in fact, someone once said, "they're the safety chains of kayak carrying." If anything does go wrong, if you have your bow and stern straps, those will help hold onto your kayaks to get you some time to pull over to the side of the road. Now the bow and stern straps for etrailer is my favorite because they have dog bones and these create anchor points in your hood and in your hatch or on your hitch. They make it so much easier to attach your bow and stern straps. The FoldAway-5 also has its strap kit and they also have cambuckle straps for the body of the boat and bow and stern ropes. Now the construction of the straps, so that's where it's different. The etrailer straps have this buckle protector that encases the buckle, and that way, no matter how it's turned, you're less likely to scratch up your vehicle. For the Malone strap, you do have a protector, but it's gonna be this long strip. So as long as you plan things out accordingly, it will help prevent scuffs and scratches, but it does take some planning. It also has a wider metal buckle than the etrailer one does. The etrailer bow and stern kit has a dog bone at the end and utilizes a cambuckle to connect the two straps. So one strap for your boat, the other strap for your hood or trunk. The Malone bow and stern strap is a rope with an S hook. This is designed to hook into your hood, your hatch, or some point on your vehicle that the S hook can adhere t
