Lincoln Avoiding Line Then and Now Compilation

The Lincoln avoiding railway line was built in 1882 as an effective bypass for goods trains passing through the city, so that they didn't have to close the level crossings for them. It was at a high level, on embankments, with several bridges over main roads and the river. This compilation shows 4 separate videos, 2 of the High Street bridge, 1 of Boultham Park Road, and 1 of Canwick Road. The avoiding line was closed in 1984, most of the embankments and all the bridges removed. Lincoln people continue to argue about whether the avoiding line could have been retained in some form, to reduce the closures of the remaining High Street level crossing.
