Unlicensed and Drunk 21-Year-Old Cries for Her Mommy

On July 14, 2024, Las Cruces Police Sgt. Chavez observed a vehicle with no headlights on. He initiated a traffic stop and the 21-year-old driver admitted that she was unlicensed. Because he could smell alcohol, he asked the driver to step out of her vehicle. She admitted to drinking 4 shots, so she was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. Half-way through the tests, she stopped and asked to be arrested. Once the handcuffs went on, she started crying for her mom. Her mom was eventually called and was asked to come pick up the vehicle. At the police station, she woman submitted to a breath test and the result was 0.18% BAC. She was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, being an unlicensed driver, and driving with no headlights. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
