Join me for a few Peaceful Moments on the ninth day of the Camino Portugues from Redondela to Pontevedra in Spain. Having had pretty much a half day off the day before, it was a 7am start for the 21km to Pontevedra. What I did not know about today's walk was that there were two pretty steep climbs involved. I also didn't know that, for no known reason, the pace for today was VERY FAST. Once out of Redondela it was pitch dark and I was pleased to have a light to see the path and not get lost. It became light approaching the town of Arcade and from there another steep climb before things became a little more flat. Outside of Pontevedra there is a split in the Camino with one way going through some woods which seemed the obvious choice. The woods were delightful with a river running through them. Eventually the woods gave way to the outskirts of Pontevedra and within a short while the end of the day's walk was in sight with a stop at a cafe for breakfast. The 21km was covered in 4.5 hours which I thought was good going and left an afternoon to rest up and enjoy Pontevedra. The next day was the second scheduled rest day of my Camino. I read somewhere that Pontevedra was a great place to stop so I booked an Airbnb for two nights to have a rest and enjoy the city. It was a most excellent place to take an extra day. #Spain #Camino #CaminoPortugues #Pontevedra #Redondela There is no music with this one - just the sounds of what was around NOTE: I somehow managed to crack the protective glass on my GoPro in Viano do Castelo. This is apparent on all the films I made on this trip from Viano onwards. I have since fixed the issue! Some Camino Details In September-October 2023 I did the Camino Portugues walking about 280km over two weeks from Porto in Portugal to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. This was 13 walking days and 2 rest days. As many people who have walked a Camino will tell you, it is a life changing experience. I totally agree with this and understand why people keep coming back. I filmed for 20 to 30 seconds several times each day and these videos are those films put together with some captions added. These films give a pretty good impression of what the walking was like on each day. I stayed mostly in albergues (cheap hostels for pilgrims) but also in one Airbnb and one nice hotel. I pre-booked most of the accommodation. The walking on this Camino is relatively flat (it is along the coast for the most part) and I walked about 20km each day carrying a backpack which weighed about 20lb - yes, I was carrying too much! The food along the way was AMAZING, as were many of the people encountered. A truly memorable experience. There is no fixed itinerary for the Camino - you decide how far you want to walk each day and there are usually many options for accommodation along the way. This is the route I chose which I matched with how far I thought was a good distance to cover each day. Day 1: Porto (Matosinhos) to Povoa de Varzim - 25km Day 2: Povoa de Varzim to Esposende - 20km Day 3: Esposende to Viano do Castelo - 25.5km Rest Day: Viano do Castelo Day 4: Viano do Castelo to Caminha - 26km Day 5: Caminha to Mougás, Spain - 29km Day 6: Mougás to San Pedro da Ramallosa - 21km Day 7: San Pedro da Ramallosa to Vigo - 21km Day 8: Vigo to Redondela - 16km Day 9: Redondela to Pontevedra - 21km
