Hi everyone 🤍 In this video, it’s the second half of Day 1 of my New Zealand South Island road trip, and we are heading back to Lake Tekapo for sunset. Originally, the plan was simple, go back to the accommodation, freshen up, rest a little, maybe grab something to eat and call it a day. But the weather was so beautiful, the evening light was unreal, and we did not want to waste a perfect South Island sunset. So we decided to head back to Lake Tekapo again for golden hour. In this video, I am also showing you our accommodation and what it looks like, what’s inside, the setup, and where we are staying during the initial days of this New Zealand road trip. I will also be sharing the costs throughout this trip, including accommodation and food, so you can get a realistic idea of budgeting for a South Island itinerary. As we drive back toward the lake, I am showing you more of the scenic roads, open landscapes, and mountain views that make this Christchurch to Lake Tekapo drive so special. We even take a small stop along the way to admire the views before reaching the famous lupin spot. Lake Tekapo is one of the most photogenic places in New Zealand, especially during lupin season. In this video, I am taking you back to the popular lupin fields, which are a major tourist hotspot and one of the most Instagram-worthy photo spots in the South Island. We walk around, admire the views, take photos, capture cinematic shots, and wait for the sunset. The golden light hitting the turquoise lake and snow-capped mountains makes the whole place feel unreal. Because it’s summer in the South Island, the sunset happens late after 9 PM and I did not want to miss it. The restaurant we were planning to order from was closing at 9, and instead of rushing, we decided to enjoy the moment properly. So in this video, I am also sharing our dinner experience in Lake Tekapo, including the cost and how it slightly went over my budget. Instead of doing a rushed takeaway, we found a scenic bench surrounded by nature and had our dinner there, honestly one of the best dinner spots ever. Mountains, lake views, sunset glow… it doesn’t get better than that.
