As seen in BICYCLING Magazine online, October 2018 https://www.bicycling.com/training/g2... Stretching & Trigger point (myofascial release) both play their part in helping keep us healthy and able to perform in our sport. But did you know that "Corrective Exercises" play important roles in helping ease neck and shoulder pain from riding our bicycles, while Strength Training specifically targeted to strengthen the muscles that become weak from long hours of riding, makes up the majority of our solution? Todays video focuses in on the Thoracic Extension foam roller exercise, which targets muscles that many cyclists and triathletes neglect: The Mid and lower Trapezius, an area that causes cyclists and triathletes neck pain and shoulder pain. Along with the Rotator cuff muscles (a group of 4 muscles: Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, and Subscapularis), the mid and lower trapezius muscles help us to hold and control the shoulder blade. However, when we are riding our road bike, time trial bike, or "Tri bike", these muscles tend to be put into positions they are not very good at, and our Thoracic spine (upper back) tends to become rounded forward, leaving us with neck, shoulder, and back pain. This leads to losst of movement in these joints for extension (bending backwards), and can lead to the mid and lower trapezius shutting down, and holding on for dear life and thus causing us pain. In this video World-Leading Strength Coach for Cyclists and Triathletes Menachem Brodie, will show you how to correctly perform The Foam Roller Thoracic Extension Exercise. This exercise, is a part of a plan you can use to get ride of back pain and shoulder pain from cycling or triathlon. Want to learn from the world leading strength coach for cyclists & triathletes?
