This time around we set foot in Juneau, Alaska, an outdoorsmen’s dream destination. Juneau is a popular cruise port where we stepped straight into Alaska’s wilderness. The town is surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and rainforest, making it a prime stop for outdoor sightseeing. We took a trolley tour to visit the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center from the cruise port of Juneau. The drive took about 20 minutes one way. Once we arrived, we did a 2 mile walked round trip to Nugget Falls, a dramatic waterfall that pours into Mendenhall Lake near the glacier’s face. It’s one of the most popular Juneau excursions because the trail is flat, scenic, and offers incredible photo opportunities of water, ice, and mountains all in one view. Mendenhall Glacier is one of the most accessible glaciers in Alaska. From the visitor area, you can see the glacier flowing into Mendenhall Lake, often sighted with floating icebergs.
