0:00 - 2:37 Godfather, Per Me 2:38 - 5:51 The Wedding Song (From The Columbia Picture "The Lords Of Flatbush") Released on Mid-Eagle Records and produced by Chicago Fire. Inc. A-Side credited to Emprise Music Co. / Home Grown Music, Inc. with lyrics by Ral Donner and arrangement and conducting by James L. Mack [not stated which one of the two composed the music]. B-Side credited to to Big Hill Music Crop. / The Ebbets field Co. with lyrics and music written by Joseph Brooks, re-arranged and conducted by James L. Mack again. While The Wedding Song was written for the 1974 movie Lords Of The Flatbush and heard in it's last scenes, Godfather Per Me instead hints at the opening scene of the first Godfather movie from 1972. It is not officially tied to the franchise, but a song from a fan for all fans. The Ral Donner fan club confirmed that he was impressed by the film and wrote the song as a tribute after seeing the undertaker Bonasera ask a favor of The Godfather, Don Vito Corleone. He wants the Don to avenge his assaulted daughter after the legal system failed to bring justice. Bonasera gets to ask this favor at the wedding of the Don's daughter, as the Don's wife is Godmother to the poor girl. He even wrote the final verse in not-quite-correct-Italian, but this A-side truly gets an A for effort! After the mandolin sets the mood, the string section will almost suggest Nino Rota's The Godfather Waltz at times. It isn't until the very end that the melody does actually briefly take us there, before the strings fade out on a resolve. Sleeping with the copyright fishes was apparently avoided! Before releasing this single in 1974, Ral was one of the first Elvis impersonators. Having started his career in the late 1950s, he performed Elvis covers and pop hits of current years before writing his own music. Godfather Per Me would later end up on the LPs An Evening With Ral Donner in 1982 and The Loneliness Of A Star in 1986. Transcribed and digitized by N. Panouryias in November 2025. Lyrics: Godfather, I come to you because I need a friend today more Than I ever did in my life Godfather, I have a child more beautiful than any other words I know But she has been scarred, her beauty has been marred And I come to you in friendship Seeking only the justice that is due The virtue of a girl so beautiful, my heart cries Godfather, Tu che hai la forza dio in terra Fammi 'na carezza, fammi lo per me Per me, per me
