Welcome to Day 8 of 14 Days of DBT Skills! Today I am talking about the Cope Ahead skill. This skill is really useful if you often find yourself worrying about a worst fear coming true. Cope Ahead is different to planning ahead which is usually about making a plan for how to manage a challenging situation. Cope Ahead involves thinking about the worst case scenario, but there is a twist. You imagine yourself being faced with your worst case scenario and (instead of floundering and not coping), you imagine managing the situation. It sounds counterintuitive, but it can be surprisingly effective. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
