March 31st, 2023 Starting from the themes of Dougald’s new book, At Work in the Ruins, this will be a conversation about the power of the language of “hospicing”, the “death-phobia” at the heart of modernity and the way this blurs our ability to look soberly at endings, but also how we reimagine the sources of agency when it comes to assisting with the birth of the new, as yet unknown and possibly (but not necessarily) wiser. Not least, how do we get beyond the assumption that agency lies solely with humans (and the particular subset of humans assumed to live closest to the future)?
