Vijayawada – Visakhapatnam High-Speed Rail Corridor | Hyderabad to Vizag in 4 Hours!

The Government is exploring plans to develop a High-Speed Rail (HSR) corridor between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, two of the most important cities in Andhra Pradesh. This proposed corridor could significantly reduce travel time and transform connectivity in the region. Currently, the fastest train between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam is the Vande Bharat Express, which takes around 4 hours 40 minutes to cover the distance of about 350 km. With a dedicated high-speed rail corridor, trains could run at speeds of up to 330 km/h, with an average speed of around 280 km/h. This could reduce travel time between Vijayawada and Vizag to nearly 1 hour 30 minutes. Another major advantage is connectivity. The proposed Hyderabad – Chennai High-Speed Rail corridor is expected to pass through Amaravati/Vijayawada. If the Vijayawada–Visakhapatnam HSR corridor becomes a reality, it could indirectly connect Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam with high-speed rail, potentially reducing travel time between the two cities to around 3–4 hours. However, there are also discussions about ticket prices and affordability. Since high-speed rail projects require huge investments, ticket prices may be higher. But if pricing is kept close to flight fares or slightly lower, more passengers could use the service, leading to high occupancy and sustainable revenue.
