James Russell Miller was a well known minister who lived from 1840-1912. He wrote many devotional books including “The Blessing of Cheerfulness” and “The Secret of Gladness”. He held several pastorates in the Presbyterian church, but is mostly known by his inspirational writings. This devotional was published in 1895. The hymn for February is written by Johann Jakob Schutz entitled “Sing Praise to God” and was written in 1675 and translated by Frances Elizabeth Cox in 1864. The first verse of the hymn is " Sing praise to God who reigns above, the God of all creation, the God of power, the God of love, the God of our salvation.
