Is modern science, technology, and AI a threat to Buddhism? Did you know that Buddhism teaches a method of knowing the body as a complete system and learning to master it through meditation? In Kāyānupassanā meditation, the Buddha explained several ways of understanding the body: Posture awareness (Iriyāpatha) – knowing the body as a whole Clear comprehension (Sampajañña) – understanding bodily movements Breath awareness (Ānāpānasati) – observing inputs and outputs Impurity contemplation (Paṭikkūla Manasikāra) – understanding bodily components Element analysis (Dhātu Manasikāra) – observing the body at an elemental or atomic level Cemetery contemplation (Navasīvathika) – understanding decay and impermanence This form of knowledge reflects practical wisdom that has been preserved and refined over millions of years of human experience—knowledge that modern biology and neuroscience are still attempting to uncover. According to the Buddha, without fully understanding the body in this way, liberation (Nibbāna) cannot be attained. This video introduces these ideas and explains how Buddhist meditation addresses the challenges posed by modern science, technology, and AI. These themes will be explored further in future discussions. E06
