What are the implications of prioritising socio-environmental justice in transport planning? 19 November 2024 This session draws on DPU’s work on urban transport and mobility over the last 30 years, examining the entry points to challenge the conventional transport planning paradigm to better address inequalities in urban areas in low- and middle-income countries. In DPU’s research, teaching and public engagement, this has been a theoretical, methodological and practice- based endeavour. The panellists will draw on their work to highlight the strategic areas for reconceptualization, reframing and an alternative engagement with practice when equity and justice are fore fronted in transport planning. This will be followed by a reflection on DPU’s presentations, based on alternative visions of the city and the role of transport in contributing to this aspiration. Panel speakers Caren Levy, Professor of Transformative Urban Planning, The Bartlett DPU Julio D Dávila, Professor of Urban Policy and International Development, The Bartlett DPU Daniel Oviedo, Associate Professor, The Bartlett DPU Discussant Nick Tyler, Chadwick Chair of Civil Engineering, Dept of Civil, Environment & Geomatic Engineering Chair: Barbara Lipietz, Professor of Urban Development Planning, The Bartlett DPU
