Various of Jacques Chirac - French President and Tony Blair - British Prime Minister coming out of Elysee palace and walking towards park 4. Various round table shots of Chirac and Blair in park STORYLINE: Meetings between the French President and the British Prime Minister began in Paris on Friday with broad smiles and warm handshakes from two leaders who have had a sometimes frosty relationship in the past. The brief summit between Jacques Chirac, the French President and Tony Blair, Britain's Prime Minister is likely to focus on shrinking energy supplies, Iran's nuclear ambitions and the prospects for peace in the Middle East. Ways to diversify Europe's energy's sources are a key part of the agenda, including Blair's recent suggestion that Britain should consider building a new generation of nuclear power plants, Chirac's office said. Discussions about the Middle East are likely to include ways to help fund the Palestinians without directly helping the militant Hamas party that leads the Palestinian government. Among other topics, Blair and Chirac are expected to discuss how, and how fast, to continue expanding the European Union, and the future of its constitution, though no specific agreements were in the works. They are also likely to address plans to reform the United Nations, international efforts to stem Iran's nuclear activities and getting the Sudan peace agreement to stick. Blair and Chirac have disagreed in the past, particularly over the war in Iraq, though both leaders have downplayed any strain in the relationship between France and Britain.
