In this video, I visualized the global spread of Starbucks from the first store in Seattle (1971) to the present day, using Starbucks corporate data and press reports. The dataset captures both its rapid expansion into new countries and the moments when it exited particular markets. Each pin marks the very first Starbucks in a country. As the animation plays, countries turn green when Starbucks enters and grey when it departs. A counter tracks the total number of countries and territories with Starbucks over time, while a timeline shows the rise, peak, and occasional retreats of one of the world’s most recognizable brands.
