Fitri Verdanah is the Head Physiotherapist at KATILOSA and the lead coordinator of its Community-Based Rehabilitation outreach program. In this interview, Fitri talks about the progress KATILOSA is making in Timor-Leste, as well as the challenges that still exist for young people living with disabilities. Fitri is from Timor-Leste and completed her education in Indonesia. Upon her return home, she witnessed firsthand the lack of support and care available to her nephew. This personal experience inspired her to use her training as a physiotherapist to help children and young people with physical disabilities. At KATILOSA, Fitri provides physiotherapy and rehabilitation while also working closely with families and communities. Through the Community-Based Rehabilitation program, parents and carers are taught how to support their children at home. Fitri believes that inclusion, understanding, and community support are essential to improving the lives of young people with disabilities in Timor-Leste.
