Immersive VR long form video: • Chukar Flat & John Day River Flight in VR How I filmed this: • How I Shot This. A couple of bush pilots takeoff from Bend, OR in search of the infamous Rajneeshpuram Cult compound in Wasco County Oregon. Nah, just kiddin’ we’re off to bag the backcountry (private) strip, Chukar Flat. I bring Ani & Kobe in the Bogey and Travis Dirtbag joins from Sisters, OR in his Cessna Skywagon newly upgraded with a P.Ponk IO-550 and avionics. I have to rely on my FAC-A skills to coordinate a busy arrival into Chukar where the gentleman who mows it was also arriving in his Skywagon. Travis has some comm gremlins to work out which makes it challenging but we make it happen safely. Spoiler--I'll gun him on RTB as payback. What ISN’T safe is my drone. I crash my DJI Mini 3 Pro and have to brave the chilly October John Day River water to rescue it. Lucky, my trusty sidekick Kobe provides mutual support as always. There were tons of fish jumping at the caddis, so next time (note to self), bring a fly rod. Your heroes blast off again as quickly as they arrived to fly some close formation up the scenic John Day River canyon. Then as the two-ship parts ways, we explore the Rajneesh Cult compound. Funny enough, it’s now a YoungLife Christian camp that my daughter went to. Thanks for watching! The kit was a RANS S-21. I'm running a Continental Titan IO-340 180hp engine with dual Lightspeed electronic ignition and a ground adjustable carbon Whirlwind 82" propeller. The tires are 8.50 (~22") and are about to be replaced by 29" Alaskan Bush Wheels which will probably kill about 10-12 of those glorious 135kts. Worth it.
