Silence of the polarnight

In Januari & February 2023 I planned a challenging journey on ski from Kautokeino to Kirkenes. Northern Lapland - alone in the polar night. I knew it would not be easy and I knew I would need lots of extra time. Wintercamping on your own, and especially when there’s so few hours of daylight, is an incredible effort. I intended this to be a different type of adventure than ‘only the mile-making-kind’. I did not want any emphasis on getting to the destiny. Only on being there. But it seemed impossible… I used wooden ski’s and wooden snowshoes, both were selfmade (by Frank & me). Therefore I thought it would be nice to have a traditional type of pulk as well. I bought a Segebaden pulk and although not quite the lightest version of sleds, it suited me very well, I loved it. I had a small tipi without tent floor from LuxeOutdoor (Sil Hexpeak) with stove-opening for my Winnerwell titanium woodstove. But quite soon in the beginning, my stovepipe broke down, so didn’t use it much (and left it in the car for the Øvre Påsvik time).
